Base Set

Released July 13, 2011, this set featured the first 5 seasons of TNG in the Complete Trek card series format. The card set had 88 cards, one for each epiosde from 1987 through 1991. Rittenhouse boasts over 500 photos were used in the base set alone! Color format for the binder, box and wrappers is blue.

Inserts

  • An 88 card parallel base set with a foil coating was inserted into the packs.
  • 18 card Tribute set for actors we’ve lost.
  • 13 card TNG aliens set.
  • 9 card USS Enterprise insert set, with a detailed look at our favorite line of ships!
  • One new style of cards are the 5 Bridge Crew Communicator Badge Cards. This is a thick flip top card with a full sized communicator badge on the inside. The badges are a bit awkward to display properly in the binder, but look great! Each are numbered /x300. 5 of the cards are in this set and the last 4 will be released in CTNG Series Two. Boxes with pin cards have two less packs.

Rittenhouse produced the pins made for the badge cards. The studio commented that these were the best reproductions they’d seen made!

  • Randomly inserted into the packs was a second Gene Roddenberry cut signature card, hand numbered x/30. The checks used in the cards were received from the Roddenberry estate. Since they are from his personal checking account, they are signed Eugene.
  • The autographs feature some of the main crew in the quotable format and the rest in the white autograph style found in TNG Qutoables. There were 49 pack pulled auto cards in all. Some statements made by Pamela Aldon seemed to imply she didn’t sign all her cards herself. Rittenhouse stated that although she misspoke and is embarrassed about the trouble she caused, she was the one signing but they will not use her card in this release.  (This card was offered as a rewards card in 2016.)
  • In a discussion on the forums about full bleed auto cards vs. smaller images, Rittenhouse said this: “I would really like to continue the TNG7 Autos here at Rittenhouse but the problem with that card design is that the photos that are available for most actors, aside from the starring cast, won’t print well in that format. The images would look fuzzy and grainy, and then you’d be unhappy with us. We created the “green” TNG autograph card design specifically with the idea that we wanted to make the photos look as good as possible, which I think we’ve accomplished. If you are wondering why it is that our TOS autos look so good in a full bleed format, it’s because the show was produced on film, not tape, as TNG was. So when we pull images from the DVD’s the quality of TOS is actually much better than TNG. You wouldn’t think that an older show would produce higher quality images than a newer show, but go watch your DVDs of both, and tell me what you see. TV shows from the 1950s and 1960s tend to look amazingly good on DVD. Shows from the late 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, when TV shows were mostly shot on VHS quality tape and before high-def cameras were used, look fuzzier and less defined. It’s one reason why we waited this long to produce our Complete TNG cards — I was hoping that the studio might figure out a way to remaster these TNG episodes in a higher def format, but the reality is that it’s not possible, other than to redo the CGI graphics (mostly space scenes), which will be done next year. But scenes of the actors simply can’t be improved beyond what already exists. But with that said, I really like how we’ve designed all of these TNG cards.”
